Radio Laria Poetry Celebrates Ten Years of Girls on Key, with Anne Carson and Poetpre, Wednesday 4th September

This September, we will celebrate Girls on Key poetry with fantastic features from Anne Carson and Poetpre, as well as open mic (all genders welcome). In 2014 Anna Forsyth launched the first ever Girls on Key, which included a feature from the internationally acclaimed Anne Carson. Radio Laria Poetry was born from Girls on Key and ten years later, we are still running strong at the same venue: the much-loved Open Studio (Northcote). Girls on Key gathers women and gender diverse poets from all over the world for online gigs and publishes unique poetry books. Tickets are $10 (full) or $5 (concession) and are available from:

We will also have tickets on the door, but please note we only accept cash. It will be very special to hear from Anne Carson who in the last ten years has published Massaging Himler and The Detective’s Chair. We are also honoured to be featuring the candid, inspiring Poetpre. Poetpre works hard in the poetry community both on the Mother Tongue committee, and for the current Sonic Poetry Festival. This will be a night with a lot of wonderful poetry and a lot to celebrate.

Doors open 7pm and the live poetry kicks off at 7:30.
Our venue Open Studio (204 High St, 3070) is a Northcote institution for culturally amazing gigs.

For the open mic it’s sign up on the night, and a 5-minute limit (arriving early is recommended for sign up). The audience is very supportive and we welcome new readers. Men are welcome to share on the open mic, but please be mindful that this is a night to promote women’s poetry and we ask that you behave respectfully. Come along and join this warm, vibrant poetry community and don’t forget about Open Studio’s yummy crepes!

Location: Open Studio (204 High St, Northcote) is on the 86 tram route, or if you want to get the train it’s a ten minute walk from Northcote Station (Mernda line) or fifteen minute walk from Westgarth Station (Hurstbridge Line).
Accessibility: Front door is wheelchair accessible, but it is a little narrow. Wheelchair accessible to performance space. Toilets are up some stairs and very narrow.

Poetpre

Poetpre weaves a tapestry of words born of darkness and light. Her Indian heritage whispers secrets of the soul and in Melbourne’s shadowy alleys, she has found inspiration for her confessional poetry, a reflection of life’s turbulent tides. With each performance, she conjures a spell of raw emotion, a symphony of heartache and hope. Her mission: to make poetry a beacon in the void, a lantern guiding those who wander through the labyrinth of the human experience.
